type='text'>

Sex Pistols Biography

When Steve Jones and Paul Cook first decided to form a band in 1972 they could hardly have predicted the effect they were to have on so many on a world wide scale. Little did they know then that the group which eventually became known as the Sex Pistols would split after a mass notoriety, and then reform in 1996.

Originally the band came about when Steve and Paul, along with schoolmate Warwick Nightingale formed The Strand. Jimmy Mackin and Steve Hayes augmented the original line-up while instruments and equipment were provided or, more practically, stolen by Jones.

Jones regularly spent his weekends at the"Let It Rock" shop in the Kings Road which was run by Malcom McLaren and Vivienne Westwood. Jones badgered McLaren into finding the group somewhere to rehearse. The location Mclaren found was Covet Garden Community Centre, and his Saturday lad Glen Matlock joined the band as bass player.

A major priority, as McLaren saw it, was to find a vocalist. Cook and Jones had each tried their hand but the desire for new blood led to the departure of Nightingale. McLaren was becoming acquainted with a regular visitor to his shop which was now known as "Sex", the green-haired teenager John Lydon. Lydon auditioned for the band by accompanying Alice Cooper on the shop's jukebox. As a result of Jones' continual comments about the state of Lydon's teeth he became Johnny Rotten, McLaren meanwhile borrowed a slogan off one of his T-shirts and dubbed the band "Sex Pistols". Initially they worked mostly on 60's covers with the likes of the Small Faces. They also began to write their own material.

Their first venture was as support to Bazooka Joe (complete with Adam Ant) in November 1975 at St. Martins College in London's Charing Cross Road. It was hardly a success however, with the plug promptly pulled after a short set. A memorable debut but for the wrong reasons ! Other dates were forthcoming though and the band slowly gained a following, sparked by Simon Barker who formed the "Bromley Contingent", an ardent group of Pistols followers. Violence at Dingwalls brought an expulsion from that venue. and because of their growing reputation they were barred from playing the Mont De Marson Punk Festival in France.

Following the U.K. tour, which included a performance at Chelmsford Prison, they played at the 100 club in September 1976 at a Punk Festival, which also featured a line-up of Siouxsie & The Banshees with future Pistols bassist Sid Vicious (real name John Simon Ritchie) on drums. On October 8th the Pistols signed to EMI, recording their debut single "Anarchy In The UK" shortly afterwards. An event then occurred that anyone who hadn't previously heard of the band would now be well aware of them. On December 1st the band appeared on Thames TV's "Today" program as late replacements, only arriving around five minutes before going on air. They were interviewed live by Bill Grundy, who proceeded to provoke the band and encourage them to "say something outrageous". For Steve Jones in particular this was an open invitation and he happily obliged with a number of expletives stunning (to put it mildly) the early evening audience. The next day the front pages of the daily newspaper were covered with pictures of the band, prompting EMI to drop them. Anxious promoters canceled all but three of the shows booked for December's "Anarchy" national tour and in February 1977 Glen Matlock left the group. His replacement was the before mentioned Sid Vicious who first had to learn how to play bass!

In March 1977 the Pistols signed a new recording deal with A&M Records. As their first single was to be "God Save The Queen" they signed the contracts outside Buckingham Palace and were photographed doing so. Just days later however A&M kicked the band off the label as well, prompting plenty of McLaren hype about the large pay-offs they were receiving, a point he made sure was driven in "The Great Rock 'N' roll Swindle" film some time later.

In May the Pistols signed their third and final record deal, this time with Virgin, and "God Save The Queen" was promptly released. Jamie Reid's sleeve design depicted the Queen's face with a safety pin through her nose in true punk tradition and it came as no surprise when the single was widely banned. The Pistols marked Jubilee Day in their own inimitable fashion by staging a performance on a riverboat on the Thames and were arrested and charged by the police on their return ashore.

Two more singles followed, "Pretty Vacant" (performed on "Top of the Pops") and "Holidays In The Sun", preceding the group's eagerly anticipated album Never Mind The Bollocks - Here's The Sex Pistols in November which went straight to the top of the charts despite many outlets refusing to stock it.

After a secret tour to avoid bans the Sex Pistols' final UK performance took place at Ivanhoes in Huddersfield on Christmas Day 1977 before they took off for the ill-fated eight show American tour in January 1978. Enough was enough for Rotten by the end and on the final date at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco he snarled "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?", a now infamous remark which sparked his departure from the band the next day. Seven days later Cook and Jones travelled to Rio with McLaren to meet and record with Ronnie Biggs, the exiled Great Train Robber.

Sid Vicious recorded a version of "My Way" and performed his farewell UK gig at Camden's Electric Ballroom under the guise of The Vicious White Kids, with ex-Pistol Glen Matlock on bass. In October 1978 Sid's girlfriend Nancy Spungen was found dead in the couple's New York hotel room, and Sid was jailed for the murder. He was released on bail but died from a heroin overdose on February 2nd 1979 whilst awaiting the murder trial.

Lydon has enjoyed a great deal of success with his band Public Image Limited in spite of many changes in personnel. He has also collaborated with the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, the Golden Palaminos and Leftfield as well as appearing in the film "Order Of Death" with Harvey Keitel. In 1994 he launched his autobiography "Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs" and his solo album planned for the not too distant future. He also hosts a daily national radio show "Rotten Day."

Upon leaving the Pistols Glen Matlock formed the rich kids with Steve New, Rusty Egan and Midge Ure. They signed to EMI releasing three singles and the "Ghost Of Princes In Towers" album. Since then Glen has worked with a variety of acts, most notably Iggy Pop, Johnny Thunders and Ian Hunter, He too had an autobiography published, in 1990, entitled "I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol" and is signed to Creation Records as a solo artist.

Cook and Jones stayed together as a team for some time after the demise of the Pistols, firstly recording a number of tracks for the "Swindle" soundtrack. After collaborating with members of Thin Lizzy (as The Greedies), Johnny Thunders and Joan Jett, they formed The Professionals, and with Steve on vocals released four singles and a long-deleted album "I Didn't See It Coming" on Virgin. Steve relocated to the United States of America, where he still lives today. Since The Professionals he has released two solo albums, "Mercy" and "Fire and Gasoline", and has recorded with a number of other artist including Iggy Pop, Andy Taylor, Megadeth and Kraut. Most recently he has played guitar on the debut solo album by Duran Duran's John Taylor, and the pair are in Neurotic Outsiders along with Duff Mckagan and Matt Sorum of Guns 'N' Roses, signed to the Maverick label.

Paul Cook became a successful session drummer and played a big part in launching the career of Bananarama. He joined the Chiefs of Relief with the late Matthew Ashman of Bow Wow Wow and released an album, and after working with Edwyn Collns on an album by Subway Sect's Vic Godard in 1993 he has continued to work with the former Orange Juice frontman, playing on 1995's celebrated "Gorgeous George" long player and touring various parts of the world.

Tsunami Bomb Biography

Tsunami Bomb: the 4-piece punk band formed toward the end of the 20th century in Petaluma, California; a sleepy Northern California bay area suburb and home to some of the greatest punk bands in the history of the genre, a virtual hot-bed, the next Seattle?

or not.

But truthfully, the newest band to sign to worldwide indie Kung Fu Records has raised the bar for punk rock debut albums with their immaculate collection of songs on The Ultimate Escape, produced by Steve Kravac (MxPx, Less Than Jake) and hitting stores across the globe on September 3, 2002.

"The band is a perfect match for Kung Fu" explains label owner Joe Escalante. "The Kung Fu success stories like The Ataris and The Vandals all got where they are by sheer hard work, both on the road and in the studio." The brainchild of bassist Dominic Davi, Tsunami Bomb was, for lack of a better word, "discovered" by AFI bassist Hunter Bergan, who immediately produced and released their first 7-inch on his own Checkmate Records. It?s clear that the influence of his own band stays with the Bomb today.

On the road no one works harder than Tsunami Bomb. 10,000 copies of their EP (The Invasion From Within) did not sell by accident. It was incessant touring that led to such sales and a wild-yet-polished live show with arguably the most likeable and "in control" female front-person in the business.

Singer Agent M is a complete package, possessing a rare combination of sweetness, beauty, talent, and power. That?s the only way to pull off the "girl sings for punk band" thing and these kids have made it a blast to experience.

Alkaline Trio Biography

"Follow me here: Punk rock is like Joan Rivers. In an ongoing quest for eternal youth, it continually tears at the flesh of its own face, pushing and prodding and tightening and twisting until what emerges is a boring old monster that, somehow, everyone is OK with looking at. And this far down the line, punk rock has been reshaped so many times it sometimes looks like a busload of 70-something sun-bunnies in coastal Florida, face lifted into an army of look-a-likes. Somewhere along the ride, its mean spirit left the tuneful bands for hardcore and metal, and punk rock filled with melody became nice. And funny. And safe. And dull as shit.

Enter Alkaline Trio, circa 1997. Right out of the gate, the kids realized that while this may still be loosely categorized as "pop-punk," it’s a full step beyond. There’s a dark side to this band, a world-weariness, and some honest-to-whoever honesty all balled up into a completely kinetic force. Even the jaded fucks can’t help but sing along to those two different-but-perfectly-complementary voices, singer/guitarist Matt Skiba’s triumphant rasp and singer/bassist Dan Andriano’s more measured, sweet croon as they combine to completely wreck audiences with bittersweet songs about love and loss, drugs and drink,God and Satan, happiness and pain. All of this comes from three young guys, about as many chords, and a healthy supply of beer, cigarettes, and heartbreak.

"There’s definitely a reason we play the kind of music that we do," says Skiba. "We offer kids a little darker slice of punk rock. Hopefully it separates us from bands that sing about going to the mall and chewing bubblegum." Two albums, both recorded on a shoestring for indie label Asian Man, delivered on the promise of Alkaline Trio’s early live shows: As fucked-up as they are wonderful, both 1998’s Goddamnit and 1999’s Maybe I’ll Catch Fire breathed new life into a music world rife with second-stringers and gonna-bes that thought (and continue to think) that looks and guitar tones were more important than feelings and smarts. The audience-band connection was both immediate and binding.

More and more kids started showing up, and watching them all simultaneously sing "I'd love to rub your back" along with Matt was pure magic every time. Vagrant Records showed up, too, in time to plunk the band into Minnesota’s semi-legendary Pachyderm Studios and release 2001’s set, From Here To Infirmary, produced by longtime Trio associate Matt Allison and expertly mixed by Jerry Finn, a man who’s made similarly minded bands (Jawbreaker, Green Day, and Blink 182, among others) sound extra fine. Then came 18 months of non-stop action: Warped Tour, Plea For Peace Tour, Vagrant America Tour, Blink-182 Tour. Is your city on the map? Alkaline Trio played there once or twice. A great looking video (for "Stupid Kid") hit the airwaves. Somewhere in there, drummer Mike Felumlee departed, and in stepped Derek Grant, an old friend of Andriano’s. The two met at legendary Chicago punk palace the Fireside Bowl. Grant was a perfect fit, and the new Trio started writing songs together almost immediately after he arrived. Says Skiba: "I feel like there’s three members of the band again for the first time in a while." Grant concurs, "The minute I sat down behind the drums with these guys, it felt right. There was no doubt that this was where I wanted to be." he says. Which leads us to where these record company bios always do: The New Album. Everything the Alkaline Trio has done has been gut-punchingly great and Good Mourning can sit proudly next to those other albums without having to hover above them. Let's talk about the songs, shall we? That’s why we’re all here.

In keeping with its title, Good Mourning reveals and reinforces a peculiar Skiba trait: He rarely sounds more alive than when he’s singing about death, whether it’s the death of a relationship, or in the case of Good Mourning’s "This Could Be Love," his own demise. On it, he cheerily describes how someone might kidnap and murder him ("Step one, slit my throat / Step two, play in my blood") and in the same thought gives shout-outs to his various hometowns. "Continental" tackles the subject from a more serious angle, distilling the frustration of losing someone to addiction into a charged rock song with a new wavey breakdown. On the hyper-speed "Fatally Yours", he gets whacked by the end of a relationship. The deliciously titled "Donner Party (All Night)" posits "I guess it’s for the better if you just can’t feel a fucking thing / fall asleep and die. It was a dark year, explains Skiba. "With the band it was great, but I definitely had some things to write about. It feels good to get some of those things off your chest rather than have them swimming around in your head all the time. Aside from playing music with my friends and traveling with my friends, getting those kind of things out has become necessary for me."

Then there’s the deep and dark "All On Black," a blasphemous stab at redemption and the song that Skiba describes as "the most personal and specific on the record." Oddly enough, it may contain the most triumphant and cheeky pro-Satanic message in the history of rock, culminating in the line, "What's upside down, coated in silver? / This crucifix, my four-leaf clover." Alkaline Trio has always employed sinister imagery to push buttons, something the singer relishes: "If it offends people who are afraid to question their own faith, then it’s a good thing. We were on the list of records that a church wanted a certain record store to pull off the shelves. I was pretty happy about that. I don’t actually believe that there is a Satan or a hell or all that kind of stuff, but the imagery more than anything is exciting and challenging. But if it’s gonna piss somebody off for me to say I’m a Satanist, I’d be happy about that." Dan is happy for more direct reasons, and he’s not afraid to let it out. On "100 Stories" he finds out that hell is actually pretty cold and that hurting yourself isn’t all its cracked up to be. We find out once again that he’s got the melancholy spark of a young Elvis Costello, and the voice to provide a perfect counterpoint. He’s always brought that balance, and he provides Good Mourning’s bits of sunshine with a pair of love songs: "Every Thug Needs A Lady" (yes, you can assume he’s being silly with the title, but not the song itself) and "Blue Carolina."

"The music I’ve been listening to probably has something to do with it, and where I’m at now. I’m feeling better about things but Matt’s still evil," laughs Andriano. "I’m happy that Dan’s happy," says Skiba. "More than ever, it’s definitely a pretty huge difference between where we’re at in our lives. It makes it kind of different, but hopefully it’ll be something that people appreciate more than something that doesn’t make any sense. I think Dan’s songs are great, some of the best he’s ever written ?they’re definitely the happiest he’s ever written. We like to have a little hope at the end of the tunnel. We don’t want somebody to listen to the record and wanna go jump off a bridge or something." The album ends with the touching, solo / acoustic "Blue In The Face," which despite its complete lack of rock, manages to encapsulate both Good Mourning and Alkaline Trio perfectly. Though weary, drained, and dejected, it manages to bear something funny, touching, and believable in one simple line: "Your coffin or mine?" After an album this strong, that question sounds not only inviting but almost inevitable."We’ve already gotten leaps and bounds beyond anything I would’ve imagined with this band," says Skiba. "Hopefully this doesn’t scare anybody away, and hopefully it invites some new friends."

BioGraphy of "The Clash
(one of the greatest bands from the past thats still running)

The Clash Biography

"The Clash have changed the lives of so many music fans around the world. A band who embodied passion, idealism and political social zeal. Blending rock and reggae, hip-hop and funk; they were the cutting edge of the punk scene, spawning a generation of fans.

Formed in the summer of ‘76, The Clash rode the wave of the punk scene and went beyond it in so many ways. Under the guidance of manager Bernard Rhodes, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Keith Levene were on the lookout for a frontman. Joe Strummer was in a pub rock band called the 101ers. When he saw The Sex Pistols play live, he knew the 101ers days were over. He was approached by Bernard Rhodes and asked to leave his band and join a tough new band that would rival The Sex Pistols. Terry Chimes took the drum seat and the group became The Clash.

Malcolm Mclaren asked his ex business partner Bernard Rhodes for The Clash to join The Sex Pistols on the now legendary ‘Anarchy in the UK’ tour, by this time Keith Levene had left The Clash.

Their Eponymous debut album ‘The Clash’ was recorded over three weekends in ‘77. This pounding, high velocity record captured the urgency and passion of the times and received huge critical acclaim. The single ‘White Riot’ inspired by Joe and Paul’s participation in the Notting Hill Carnival riots was indicative of the social activist attitude that the band would have throughout their career.

At this time Topper Headon joined the line-up replacing Chimes, and in ‘78 they played what has become a hugely celebrated gig in front of 80,000 people at Victoria Park in east London for Rock Against Racism. The band hit the studio after this to record their second album ‘Give ‘Em Enough Rope’ over three months in the UK and the US with production by Sandy Pearlman. It reached No. 2 in the UK charts in ‘79. With a tougher expanded sound moving on from the immediate music of ‘The Clash’, this second album confirmed the band as the leading light of the Punk movement.

‘Give ‘Em Enough Rope’ catapulted the band onto the US scene and they set out on a tour of the states with Bo Diddley in support. The influences they experienced from this tour were apparent on their return to the UK from a new musical direction, and their classic rock and roll quiffed up look. Whilst in the studio in the US they recorded a cover of ‘I Fought The Law’ (Bobby Fuller Four), now regarded as a classic Clash track.

Other musical influences including dub, reggae, ska and jazz have always been at the heart of the band. When the band re-entered the studio in the summer of ‘79 under the guiding hand of producer Guy Stevens, many of these styles were found in the songs that the band created. These sessions produced ‘London Calling’, voted in Rolling stone magazine as ‘The Greatest record of the 80s’.

The band went back to the states for a six week tour taking Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and the Cramps in tow amongst others. They then embarked on a recording frenzy in New York, Jamaica and London using music styles from rap and funk to dub that the band picked up from their touring and travels.

The band recorded the single ‘Bankrobber’ but the record company would not release it in the UK, huge public demand meant the company had to capitulate. The wealth of material produced around these recording sessions created the triple album ‘Sandinista’, named after left wing freedom fighters in Nicaragua, which was released in 1980.The band insisted upon releasing this album at budget price and its success in the UK was matched and exceeded for the first time by the US.

1981 saw the re-appearance of Bernie Rhodes as manager who they had parted ways with in 1978. Back on board he organised a celebrated run of dates in New York’s Times Square. Threatened with closure by the fire department riots ensued, but to the joy of the fans the shows were allowed to continue. New York was alive with the sounds of funk, dance and early electro and the band listened with eager ears as ever and took many of these influences with them to the studio when they recorded ‘Combat Rock’. Produced by Glyn Johns the album spawned two of the bands most famous songs ‘Rock The Casbah’ and ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’. On release in 1982 the album reached No. 2 in the UK and jumped straight into the top ten in the US. The band then went on a massive stadium tour culminating in the historic show at Shea Stadium with the Who.

A period of change within the band ensued with Headon being sacked from the group to be replaced by Chimes again, who was subsequently replaced by Pete Howard. The band continued to tour but by 1983, after years of constant touring and recording the strain took its toll and Mick Jones was asked to leave the group, he went on to form Big Audio Dynamite. Nick Sheppard and Vince White were hired and the group continues to tour throughout 1984. The Clash then released ‘Cut The Crap’.

In 1986 The Clash split permanently, Strummer went on to collaborate with Jones on BAD’s album ’10 Upping St’ and wrote and produced his own solo material, Simonon went on to form Havana 3am. The Clash were never forgotten by fans and music pundits alike, constant speculation as to a re-union was always rife. In 1991 Levi’s used ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’ in a TV commercial which launched the single to the No. 1 position in the UK when it was re-released by CBS, and introduced the band to a whole new generation of fans.

The Clash were a band that changed lives, with shows that literally ripped up auditoriums. Their political and social ideals were always represented within their songs and never wavered, they were innovative and never afraid to embrace different styles or learn from music of the past and present.

Sadly Joe Strummer died in December 2002, a tragic loss to the world of music; however The Clash will always live on through their music and in the memories of their fans. The band will also be inaugurated into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2003 - a fitting legacy for a band who totally changed the face of music for their generation and continue to inspire and excite to this day."

WHY the hell are there clouds and why is it cold during the summer i hate this weather. this is so wrong, man during winter it was hot and summer is cold i hate this weather y cant it just turn back to normal?

If you find the answer to this question email me at fenixtx351@yahoo.com

Why do lots of corporate amercians betray the country by stealing money. damn them there all rich enough and they still want more. why dont they just stop it all..stupid buggers why dont they all die

I have lots of friends or i think they're my friends. well there are lots of people that are so damn annoying because they follow treads started out by otehr i know, this person will remain anonymous (adam) well just because everyone likes slipknow doesn't you have to.
